Failure of collectors on the Vistula River

At the beginning of 2022, research work was completed to determine the causes of failure of two sewage collectors delivering waste to the Czajka wastewater treatment plant in Warsaw. The research was conducted by a team of experts from the Cracow University of Technology, led by prof. Stanisław Rybicki. The failure under study took place in August 2020.

The research team determined that the cause of the failure was insufficient drainage. This led to the creation of dangerous pressure outside the installation and, consequently, to the destruction of one thread. The resulting leak damaged the second thread.
